POLITICAL, NOT MEDICAL AGENDA DRIVES LOCKDOWNS

“The far-left politicians in Blue States who are pushing stricter-and-stricter lockdowns supposedly to contain the COVID-19 virus have an agenda, but their agenda has nothing to do with medicine,” said Jim Tobin, economist and president of Taxpayer Education Foundation (TEF). “Their agenda is strictly political.” 

“Not only have these lockdowns caused incalculable damage to the U.S. economy, especially to small businesses, but the lockdowns have had the opposite effect on their stated goals.” 

“According to the latest issue of the Unleash Prosperity Hotline published by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, which has been looking at monthly data from the CDC for almost nine months, strict lockdown states have about double the death rates of states with no lockdowns. There isn’t any relationship one way or the other for all the other states.” 

“Over time, the states have been slowly converging. If the lockdowns had any positive impact, the results would be the other way around.” The newsletter makes clear that lockdowns do not work, and that “International studies show only a small positive or no effect of lockdowns. As for the European model: the virus is out of control in the Eurozone.” 

“It’s time to open up the country, save our small businesses, and put Americans back to work,” said Tobin.
