The Washington-based nonpartisan Tax Foundation just released its analysis of state and local sales tax rates, with #1 being worst, and Illinois was a dismal #6.

“This unbiased study shows how dire the tax climate is in Illinois,” said Jim Tobin, president of the Taxpayer Education Foundation. “Only five states in the entire country had state and local sales tax rates higher than Illinois.”
“Illinois’ state and local sales taxes of 9.08% are the sixth-worst in the country.”
“To make matters worse, Illinois Gov. Jay Robert ‘J. B.’ Pritzker and his Springfield thugs placed on the November 2020 ballot a huge state income tax increase. What does a statewide income tax increase mean for Illinois residents? It means stealing from them to subsidize government pension millionaires.”
Sales and income tax rates in Illinois must be cut, not raised, if Illinois is to become economically viable.”
